How can artists support protests? This what Sergey Shabohin and Igor Shugaleev are asking themselves after they experienced the 2020-21 protest in their native country of Belarus. Protesters there were met with extreme violence and political persecution. Out of this situation, a minimalistic, yet effective performance emerged that invites the audience to shake off their indifference - to imagine the repression and torture that the protesters went through, the lawlessness and violence that still haunts them today.

“375 0908 2334 / The body you are calling is currently not available” is not only a form of artistic expression, the piece also tries to capture the political situation and the horror that is connected with it. Moreover, with each performance, the artists also raise funds for the victims of violence and repression in Belarus.

What does 375 0908 2334 mean?

375 is the country code for Belarus.
0908 is the date of the presidential election that was unscrupulously manipulated by the authorities. The resistance to this, as well as the dissatisfaction with the election results led to a revolutionary protest movement that is still going on today.
2334 is the article of the Administrative Code of Belarus dealing with “violations of the procedures for organizing or holding mass events,” under which more than 40,000 Belarusians have been convicted since August 2020.

A man is standing in a dark room with only one spot of light on his body. He is facing a wall, his hands outstretched above him with his wrists resting on the wall. His palms are facing the room. Next to him on the wall, a large digital clock is projected, showing 56 minutes and 23 seconds. Behind the performer, hidden in the darkness, the audience watches him.
Next to the performer stands a woman, who is in the same position in front of the wall. The clock next to both of them shows 29 minutes and 24 seconds.
Along the other walls of the room, many people have assumed the same position as the performer. Only a few people remain seated in the audience, watching the scene with serious expressions.
Several people are standing next to the performer in the same position against the wall. The clock in the background shows only 20 minutes and 28 seconds remaining.
