During every Festival, we have been supporting artists and cultural initiatives with mentoring. We understand mentoring as guidance, reflection and consultation given by an external expert. The focus is on exchanging experiences, knowledge and methodologies. This year, Basamum Theater, which is a very new initiative, and zeitraumexit, a well-established collective, have been each awarded a mentorship. In this event, we would like to present the current developments in both initiatives, to get to know their goals and visions and to pose the question about what the role of a mentor can have in the artistic process and organizational development.
Discussion with representatives from Basamum Theater and zeitraumexit.
Basamum Theater
Founded in 2022, Basamum Theater is a non-profit association that is still in a state of development. It consists of seven creative artists and people engaged in the cultural sector in Mannheim who are working on establishing a new independent theater in Mannheim. It will be a theater that will take into consideration the working conditions and day-to-day realities of those who work in and with this theater. The BASAMUM THEATER has dedicated itself to the discourse of empowerment, anti-racism and new ways of working (NEW WORK) in the independent performing arts. Starting in 2024, it will be offering space to artists who have experienced racism and discrimination to work on their art, to feel empowered, to rebel, to be inspired and feel secure. The theater has been founded under the principles of transparency, correctness, dynamics and idealism.

zeitraumexit
Occupying the spaces between genres and social fields, the artist house in Mannheim zeitraumexit promotes and produces art regionally, nationally and internationally. In addition to our annual program featuring regularly planned events, we also host performances, exhibitions, concerts with an experimental-electronic focus, and cross-genre themes. Expanding our collaboration with inclusive artists and removing barriers for visitors with disabilities has become an important part of our work. As a socio-cultural center, zeitraumexit addresses socially relevant topics and through its art projects and educational programs, also makes an impact on the neighborhood.
